Description
Blue Iguana that lives only in one place in the world - on Grand Cayman island. It is the largest native land animal on Grand Cayman with a total nose-to-tail length of 5 ft (1.5 m) and weighing as much as 30 lb (14 kg). Their eyes have cells called "double cones" which give blue iguanas sharp color vision and enable them to see ultraviolet wavelengths. Blue iguanas have evolved a white photosensory organ on the top of their heads called the parietal eye (also known as the third eye. It" doesn't work the same way as a normal eye, but it sensitive to changes in light and dark and can detect movement. The blue iguana is one of the longest-living species of lizard, possibly up to 69 years.
