Description
Famous British red telephone boxes and the iconic Underground sign at the Trafalgar Square in London.
The booth was designed in 1924 by the architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, although The Post Office chose to make it in cast iron (Scott had suggested mild steel) and to paint it red (Scott had suggested silver, with a "greeny-blue" interior) and, with other minor changes of detail, it was brought into service as the Kiosk No.2 or K2. The color red was chosen to make them easy to spot; and from 1926 onwards, they were emblazoned with a prominent "Tudor Crown", representing the British government of which the Post Office was an agency.
