Description
This spectacular volcanic landscape covers a quarter of the Lanzarote island, which has a volcanic origin and was emerged about 15 million years ago as product of the Canary hotspot. The greatest recorded eruptions occurred between 1730 and 1736 - more than 100 volcanoes became active and devastated part of the island at that time, but the volcanic activity continues as the surface temperature in the core ranges from 100 to 600 °C at the depth of 13 m and up to 277°C at just 10cm.
Second place in the "Nature As We See With Naked Eye" contest sponsored by "Photography" group 02/23/2022.
